Sun's out, bums out.

We're hitting the shores of the Central Coast and cracking open this bold, but cheeky, red wine to get you through summer.

When it comes to Petite Sirah and Syrah, Paso Robles is a fucking powerhouse. Intense daytime summer heat helps the grapes develop sugar, phenolic ripeness, and density, leading to lush black fruit flavors and spice. At night, temps can drop as much as 50°F, helping the grapes retain acidity and freshness. So when it comes to these two stars, we get all power and no flab. Oh, and we added some Cab to class it up.

Due to its intensity, Petite Sirah is one of our favorite grapes. A descendant of France (and a cross between Syrah and Peloursin), this shit is known for its near-black color, high tannins and musculature. Syrah, also from France, has a ruby hue, moderate acidity, dark flavors, and that perfect black pepper spice.

Picked in the late summer of 2023, we de-stemmed each lot, then sent them off to be pressed. As tannins can be grippy, we used a combination of new and used French oak barrels for aging.

Let's talk about the set. Inky purple in color with a dark, opaque core. Explosive notes of blackberry compote, black licorice, dark chocolate, and cracked black pepper shred out of the glass. Next your tongue rides a swell of flavors including ripe black plum, blueberry jam, mocha and cassis. This wine is full-bodied, and plus, which chewy tannins and a velvety texture and a grippy clench. It's an intense, but fun, and sexy, ride.

From Morro Rock to Rincon, the Central Coast is an iconic surf region, filled with a more earnest type of surfer. Surfing on the Central Coast was never about sponsorships or contests — it was about escapism and soul. Surfers here were ranch kids, art students, and wanderers who valued solitude over scene. In the ’60s and ’70s, you had guys in beat-up vans chasing swells and sleeping in the dunes. By the ’90s, the region started earning respect for its uncrowded, high-quality waves and anti-commercial ethos.

This wine is an ode to those real life surf bums. Living out of a van, camping on the beach, chasing swells over dollars. No shorts, no shoes, no problems.
