2019 Super Geisha, Pét-Nat Sparkling Wine, El Dorado County

Our latest Pét-Nat is here to pop some sunshine into your glass.

We used the "méthode ancestrale" to make this sparkling wine the OG French way, by bottling the juice before the first fermentation completed, allowing the native yeast to create delicate bubbles inside the bottle. Making a Pét-Nat, my friends is no easy task – but after several vintages spent refining this laborious winemaking style, we know we've got another smash hit on our hands.

New to our cellar is Picpoul, a white grape commonly found in the Rhône region of France. One of the thirteen permitted varietals in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Picpoul is primarily used as a blending varietal and is known for its tart characteristics. We couldn't get enough of its mouthwatering acidity and bright citrus notes, so we decided to make it the star of this bubbly blend.

In a supporting role is Tocai Friulano, aka Sauvignon Vert (dibs on that rapper name), which lends some bright acidity to the mix.

From the moment you pop the crown cap on Super Geisha, you'll be swept away with perfumed floral notes of jasmine and orange blossom, with some hints of spice and fresh herbs.  The tiny bubbles give way to juicy tropical fruit on the palate that is refreshing yet delicate, with incredibly well-balanced acidity. The volcanic soils found in El Dorado County provide a chalky Champagne-like texture on the finish.

We were inspired by the ultra-vibrancy of this geisha street art and found many similarities with the wine. “Geisha,” most directly translates to the word “artist” in English, which we thought was fitting for a sparkling wine that requires so much craft and care.

This is a natural sparkling wine with varying degrees of cloudiness, sediment, and remaining lees. This is completely normal. We think it's awesome, but don't say we didn't warn you. Serve this wine well chilled!
