You think I can’t outrun trouble? Watch me.
Run Baby Run is an ode to dropping out, splitting town, and chasing what you love. And while your past may not be done with you, you can be done with your past...if you just run fast enough, baby.
The seventh, and best, skin-fermented white wine produced by Tank Garage Winery, Run Baby Run takes orange wine out on the lam. By crushing a white grape variety and letting the juice ferment on the skins like a red wine, we’re able to craft a white wine with greater depth of flavor, aromas, and color. A rarity for us, this wine is 100% Trousseau Gris, a French variety that thrives in cooler climates and is known for having fresh aromatics and incredible, astonishing color. Though once grown widely across California, those vineyards are now long gone, and Trousseau Gris survives in one rare spot.
Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard is hallowed ground, and home to the last 10 acres of Trousseau Gris in the United States. Planted in 1981 by Peter Fanucchi and his father Arcangelo, this Russian River Valley vineyard grows in sandy loam soils and is farmed organically. Within winemaking circles, gaining access to this scarce fruit is like hitting the lottery, and when we found out we got some, we couldn’t believe it. Still can’t actually.
To preserve the essence of this special fruit, we painstakingly whole-cluster foot-stomped the entire lot. The juice spent 7 days fermenting on the skins prior to being pressed and aged 8 months in barrel. The color of this wine is something we’ve been working towards for a half-decade. Like a California sunset, the depth of orange and amber color is truly remarkable. The exotic fruit comes through on the nose, wafting notes of lychee, Rosewater, and Gardenia. On the palate, you'll find notes of tea leaves mixed with great fruit intensity – think grapefruit and passionfruit – with a long finish and superb balance.
